Language

1) Write the definition of the following key language for newspaper front pages (you may want to add an example for each from our Daily Mirror CSP):

Masthead: a title block of the newspaper
Pug: something to catch readers eyes
Splash Head: the lead story
Slogan: sums up ethos of newspaper
Dateline: date newspaper was published
Kicker: story at top of paper to draw interest content
By-line: gives the name of journalist/writer
Stand first: introductory paragraph usually in bold

2) How much does a copy of the Daily Mirror cost? (Note: the current cost is different to the CSP edition - we recommend learning both).

in 2021- 90p
in 2024- £1.80

3) What are the main stories on the CSP edition of the Daily Mirror (see above)? Make sure you learn the headline and what the stories are about.

Heat Is On - this is the topic about global warming and the climate change affecting the world globally.

4) Why is the choice of news stories and content on the Mirror CSP front page typical of a tabloid newspaper?

as it also has a pug of football which creates a wider audience to buy the newspaper and has the pride of Britain awards which also gives of soft news which is entertainment which links to it being a tabloid newspaper.

5) What is the balance on the Daily Mirror front page between images, headlines and text?

there is half  hard news and soft news so that there is a balance for the readers when reading to make it more enjoyable instead of being so harsh.

Representations

1) What political party does the Daily Mirror support? Is there any evidence to support this in the CSP pages we have studied?

supports the labour party and is against the conservative party. we can see this on the double page spread as we see Boris Johnson and are wondering whether he is in control; of the situations.

2) How does the Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards represent ordinary British people?

as this is showing off ordinary peoples accomplishments with no hierarchy.

3) How is climate change as an issue represented in the Daily Mirror? What evidence can you provide from the CSP pages to support this?

'the heat is on' massive central image so that the readers are aware of the global situation and is bold and noticeable.

4) How are environmental protesters like Greta Thunberg represented in the Daily Mirror? Look at the inside pages to answer this.

has a while column to herself and shows the importance of her as it is obvious.

5) How are different countries and political leaders represented in the Daily Mirror? Does this reinforce or subvert the stereotypes we usually see in the media?

in the double page we see Boris at the end of the line up which shows that he isn't as important and is left out when it comes to political thinking. the political side is also quite negative.
